Tools
Ghost hunting is not a perfect science but there are many tools out there that can guide us in our investigations.
Let’s go ahead and get this out of the way by listing tools that we don’t use. The tools below can be used to deem every house in America haunted. This is not CLP’s objective:
Ouija boards- Readings are often flawed because of the user’s subconscious input.
Voice boxes- You may see these on television but they’re unreliable.
Pendulums- A string tied to a weighted sphere has nothing to do with anything. Like the Ouija board, this tool has more to do with the user’s input than any sort of paranormal response.
Compasses- Would you ever try to toast your bread using a toothbrush? Of course not. Then why use a compass for something it is clearly not designed for.
Psychics- We shouldn’t really have to go into detail on this one.
With that said, here are the tools that we live by. These tools are reliable and provide results that can be evaluated.
- Digital voice recorders
- EMF detectors
- Digital thermometers
- K-2 meters
- Laser grids
- Multimeters
- Full spectrum cameras
- Hand-held night vision camcorders
- IR cameras and a DVR system

Cross the Line Paranormal also believes that each member’s eyes and ears are important. If you pay attention to your surroundings you may pick up on clues that can aid in an investigation.
